Crosslink Polyethylene is made with a mixture of chemicals that create a reaction in which the material rises and is molded to create buns or special shapes. These same chemicals can be extruded to create planks and rolls. Nevertheless, the material is exposed to radiation which changes the molecular structure to create Crosslink Polyethylene. Crosslink is a closed cell foam that has a solid feel and is totally non abrasive. It is a wonderful packaging foam.
Crosslink is the best of the best. It is stronger, more flexible, more durable, more resiliant, non-abrasive and last but certainly not least, it is the most expensive.
Crosslink Planks and buns come in many different sizes. Their thickness runs from 3" to 6" and the width usually comes 48" or 60" wide. The most common lengths are 72"& 96" long. The thickness of Crosslink rolls run from 1/8" to 1/2" thick. The width is 60" and the length varies from 150' on a 1/2" roll to 600' on the 1/8" roll. The most common colors for XLPE in any form is natural and charcoal. There are more colors available than other foam types, but sometimes it can be a hit or miss depending on what the vendor is stocking. You can always order a special run if you have sufficient volume and plenty of time
Crosslink PE material comes in a very wide variety of densities starting with 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9, and 15 pounds per cubic foot. Which is a lot of choices. The density of any foam is the main cost factor. The heavier the foam is, the higher the price will be.
XLPE foam is manufactured in four different grades:
Grade A -- Standard
Grade B -- Static Dissipative
Grade C -- Fire Retardant
Grade D -- Static Dissipative and Fire Retardant
